Travertine is back on floors, walls and coffee tables, and with good reason: it is warm, quiet and ages beautifully. It also has habits you should know.
| Finish | Looks | Where to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Honed and filled | Smooth, calm | Floors, bathrooms, worktops |
| Unfilled | Open holes, textured | Walls and fireplaces |
| Tumbled | Soft edges, rustic | Garden paths, splashbacks |
Looking after it
- Seal it at installation and again every year or two
- Wipe up lemon, wine and vinegar quickly: acids etch the surface
- Clean with a pH-neutral stone soap, never bleach
The Stone Bath at Fairhaven uses honed, filled travertine from floor to ceiling.
